Are his dreams of romance going up in smoke? The Married at First Sight matchmakers reveal in the season 4 premiere on July, Tuesday 26, that Nick Pendergrast's cigarette habit makes him a tough candidate to pair up.
Us Weekly's exclusive sneak peek at the episode shows Pendergrast, 32, a vacation rental manager from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, discussing why he's had trouble finding the right woman.
"I do occasionally smoke when I'm out and about," he tells the camera. "Whatever I've been trying for the past 32 years of my life hasn't worked out. So today I am here to meet the love of my life."
Pendergrast reveals he was recently shaken by a family tragedy, as his aunt and uncle were in a car crash, and his aunt didn't survive.
"They were the only people that I know at this point that are together 45 or so years, and were still passionately in love, so it was saddening but also enlightening at the same time," he explains.
Dr. Pepper Schwartz, the show's relationship expert, is concerned that Pendergrast's key vice may hinder his ability to find romance.
"Nick could be a great husband for some lucky woman," Schwartz tells the camera. "I think he's a man of integrity and honesty, but I'm not sure we can find him a match because of his smoking."
